Who
We Are
Funkie
Gardens is a family owned business started by Baard and Diane Webster in
1995. We are located in
Prescott, WI about twelve miles from River Falls, WI and just across the
Mississippi river from Hastings, MN.
Prescott is an
old river town situated where the St. Croix river, a National Scenic
Riverway, joins the Mississippi river. We are just 30 minutes from
St. Paul, MN.
We have an
in-town nursery located on three and one-half acres---ample room for a
selling area, display gardens and propagation beds---all surrounding a
pre-Civil War-era home.

What's New:
Please come and
spend the day walking our gardens, talking to experts and see the
diversity and beauty of woodland plants ideally suited to our climate
and gardens. Here is just a sampling of some of the plants featured:
Rue
Anemone (Anemonella thal. Betty Blake)
A beautiful woodland rue anemone with fully double, yellow-green,
long-lasting flowers. A rare woodland treasure and very strong grower.
Blooms in early spring. $24.95
Barrenwort
(Epimedium grand. Lilofee)
One of the larger-flowered species in the genus Epimedium, this cultivar
bears lavender-violet flowers in late spring. Slow to establish but very
hardy--and well worth the wait! $12.95
Yellow
Trout Lily (Erythronium americanum)
This native woodlander features dark, glossy green leaves mottled with
brown and purple markings in early spring. In late spring nodding yellow
flowers appear. Plants are stoloniferous and go dormant by mid-summer.
Provide strong spring sunlight. $7.95
Maidenhair
Fern (Adiantum pedatum)
The 'Maidenhair Fern' is one of the most sought after and popular ferns
available. This native fern provides a graceful and lacy feel in the
shaded garden. Quickly spreads in moist, bright areas. $7.95
Wild
Geranium (Geranium mac. Espresso)
This is a selection of our native wild geranium found in open woods and
clearings throughout this area. 'Espresso' has very attractive red-brown
foliage that contrasts nicely with its lavender-pink flowers in early
summer. $7.95
Sharp-lobed
Hepatica (Hepatica acutiloba)
This is a great plant because in early spring (usually March) these
babies are jumping out of the ground to get on with summer. The sign of
hepaticas in the gardens makes you know it's almost time to get out and
start digging in the dirt! $7.95
Crested
Iris (Iris cristata)
One of the finest irises native to the U.S. The woody, shallow rhizomes
creep along the surface resulting in rapid multiplication of the clump.
Plants tolerate part to heavy shade. Looks magnificent in great drifts
in the woodland garden. $7.95
Spring
Bush Pea (Lathyrus vernus)
This beautiful but little known member of the pea family is a nice
addition to the shade garden because of it's early spring bloom. Purple
flowers sit atop a mounding clump while other perennials are just
starting to break dormancy. Tough and durable. $9.95
Fragrant
Solomons Seal (Polygonatum od. Variegatum)
A beautiful plant with soft green leaves edged in a broad strip of
creamy white. The variegation makes the plant jump out, and is a bright
addition to dull shade. Makes an excellent cut stem for arrangements.
$9.95
Double
Bloodroot (Sanguinaria can. Multiplex)
An outstanding plant with fully double flowers. Plants bloom longer than
regular bloodroot. An early bloomer that heralds summer is soon here!
Very rare. $17.95
Great
White Trillium (Trillium grandiflorum)
One of the great native woodland plants of our area. Interplant with
hepaticas, wild gingers, bloodroot and native fern to make your own
woodland garden! $7.95
Double
Great White Trillium (Trillium grand. Plenum)
One of the finest plants we'll ever be able to offer, this is a
double-flowering white trillium. Beautiful, overlapping rows of white
petals stand majestically atop this easily-grown, American woodland
treasure. $69.95
