MARINE ON ST CROIX, MINN. – November 14, 2009 – Perennial nursery Funkie Gardens will begin its 16th year in business under new ownership this coming spring.
Longtime enthusiast Terri Weiler has acquired Funkie Gardens, which will open this spring in a new, more convenient location three miles north of Marine on St. Croix, Minnesota.
Previous owners Baard and Diane Webster were delighted to keep their tradition alive.” Weiler said, “Baard and Diane have been invaluable in the transition. We’ll also be retaining key staff. Just a new location!” Staff members Buck Duncan (known for his “sunny disposition”), and Master Gardener Colleen Wall will help keep the – somewhat irreverent – funky culture alive.

The new location borders the William O’Brien State Park, and features an Indian Mound. “Yes, we have our very own Native American Burial Mound right in our yard,” Weiler elucidated. “It’s really cool.”
Funkie Garden’s will continue to offer an exceptional selection of perennials, such as Martagon Lilies, as well as an abundance of hostas and new plant releases. The only difference will be the new unique place – next to Crabtree’s Garden Gate, a few miles north of the historic village of Marine on St Croix.
Marine on St Croix, located 30 minutes from the Twin Cities up scenic Highway 95, was founded in 1839 and still retains many of its historic sites. An 1870’s General Store, the Stone House Museum and Village Hall are all listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and much of the village is designated a historic site by the State of Minnesota. Funkie Gardens opens this spring at 19713 Quinnell Ave, Marine on St. Croix, MN.
