What's New:

Hosta:

Hosta ‘Beckoning’

A fantastic large sport of H. 'Blue Angel'.  The gold leaves are matched with a wide, blue-green margin.  These huge, heart-shaped leaves are lightly cupped and glaucous.  A great specimen plant.

 

Hosta ‘Bingo’

A rarely seen hosta which originated as a seedling of H. 'Tokudama Aureonebulosa'.  The medium-sized clumps of thick, corrugated blue foliage are bordered by a nice wide band of gold.

 

Hosta ‘Blazing Saddles’

This beautiful hosta is a seedling from H. 'Blue Umbrellas'.  Makes a large four-foot clump with oblong leaves and a wide creamy-white edge.  Good growth rate.

 

Hosta ‘Christmas Pageant’

A beautiful sport which boasts a dramatic, wide creamy-white margin, much wider than the parent plant, H. 'Christmas Tree'.

 

Hosta ‘Cracker Crumbs’

A strong growing hosta that will brighten any shade garden!  This dwarf hosta features a dense, rounded mound of gold-centered, green-margined foliage.  An outstanding edger, rock garden or trough plant.

 

Hosta ‘Deja Blu’

An interesting new sport of H. 'Blue Boy' featuring blue-green foliage with a cream lightning bolt that dances between the center of the leaf and the yellow margins.

 

Hosta ‘Devon Green’

OK, it's green---but take another look.  A sport from H. 'Halcyon', this hosta features thick heart-shaped leaves with nicely impressed veins and a dark green color.  The shiny green leaves are heavy substanced for good slug resistance.  Subtle but nice.

 

Hosta ‘Dragon Tails’

Eye-catching miniature forming a fast growing clump of long, narrow lance-shaped yellow leaves with most attractive wavy margins. Lavender flowers top the clump in midsummer.

 

Hosta ‘Fire Island’

This small hosta has brilliant yellow leaves as soon as it appears out of the ground in spring.  The striking foliage is accented by red petioles extending into the base of the leaves.  The intense color of the foliage lessens by mid to late summer.

 

Hosta ‘Frosted Dimples’

A beautiful small hosta with blue, heart-shaped leaves edged with a crisp, creamy border.  The thick foliage has a wonderful 'pebbled' surface and white flowers appear in mid-summer.

 

Hosta ‘Gemini Moon’

A bright and beautiful sport of H. 'Abiqua Moonbeam' with significantly wider, gold margins---very nice.  Leaves have good substance for better slug resistance.  Will create a nice, medium size hosta.

 

Hosta ‘Golden Tusk’

A beautiful hosta featuring gold foliage with thick substance.  A gold-leaved sport of H. 'Woolly Mammoth' which originally came from H. 'Blue Mammoth'.

 

Hosta ‘Harpoon’

H. 'Harpoon' makes dense, mounding vigorously-growing clumps and features narrow, wavy, glossy green leaves with a 1/2" wide, rippled creamy border that emerges gold.  A gold-margined hybrid from H. yingeri.

 

Hosta ‘High Society’

A beautiful hosta from Hans Hansen of Waseca from a striking sport of the very popular H. 'June'.  Emerges in spring with warm yellow centers which brightens to white by mid-summer.  The leaves are edged by a wide blue margin.

 

Hosta ‘Holy Mole’

A robust sport of H. 'Guacamole' that quickly forms a large clump.  The thick, rubbery, dome-shaped leaves are chartreuse with very wide, dark green margins.  Possibly a tetraploid.

 

Hosta ‘Katsuragawa Beni’

This is one of the best red stemmed hostas available.  Discovered in the mountains of Japan, "Beni" translates to "crimson", referring to the unique coloring of the petioles and spotting at the base of the leaves.  Narrow, pointed, shiny green foliage.

 

Hosta ‘Key Lime Pie’

A wonderful sport of H. 'Squash Casserole' featuring corrugated green leaves with a wide yellow edge.  The heavily ruffled leaves are held horizontally, which produces a wide, flat-mounded plant.  Very strong grower.

 

Hosta ‘Kiwi Full Monty’

This is the long awaited blue-green sport of H. 'Striptease' which emerges with frosty blue leaves that have a blue-green center surrounded by a white line.  The center later turns bright gold.  Excellent substance and good vigor.

 

Hosta ‘Kiwi Skyscraper’

From Barry Sligh of New Zealand comes this outstanding hybrid of H. 'Sagae'.  Features rich blue foliage in a distinctly upright, large mound.  Great as a background or specimen plant in the garden.

 

Hosta ‘Lakeside Dragonfly’

This vigorous grower produces a low but wide, attractive cascading mound.  Broad, pointed, green leaves are surrounded by creamy white margins that jet irregularly into the center.

 

Hosta ‘Lederhosen’

'Lederhosen' is German for 'Leather Britches' and this hosta features thick, leather-like foliage with elegant, wavy margins.  The beautiful fragrant lavender flowers open in late summer and are as pretty as any hosta you will see.

 

Hosta ‘Magic Fire’

H. 'Magic Fire' has very thick leaves that twist and fold, with beautiful, flame-like deep green centers and wide, bright yellow borders.  A variegated sport from the classic H. 'Sagae' it eventually creates a magnificent large specimen plant.

 

Hosta ‘Mister Watson’

A bright, gold-centered hosta with a narrow green margin highlights this impressive perennial.  A sport of H. 'King Tut' found by Leonard Jones of NC.  Combines thick substance with highly durable, slug-resistant foliage.

 

Hosta ‘Princess Anastasia’

This durable sport of H. 'Ryan's Big One' features bright gold leaves with dark, blue-green margins.  Thick leaves are very slug resistant.

 

Hosta ‘Queen of the Seas’

This lovely blue hosta features pointed, heart-shaped leaves with a piecrust margin.  Introduced by Mildred Seaver and won 'Best of Show' at the '97 Nat'l. Hosta Convention.  A must for any hosta collection.

 

Hosta rectifolia ‘Kinbuchi Tachi’

This distinct hosta creates an upright mound of shiny, dark green foliage with margins that slowly change from yellow to creamy white.  Bright purple flowers on scapes up to 40" in late summer.

 

Hosta ‘Robert Frost’

A truly impressive plant for its large mound of foliage with blue-green centers and wide, creamy white borders.  Good substance.

 

Hosta ‘Sea Nymph’

Mildred Seaver's H. 'Sea Nymph' features narrow, dark green, lance-shaped leaves with rippled edges.  Each leaf is edged with a narrow yellow margin.  Pale lavender flowers top this fast growing plant in midsummer.

 

Hosta ‘Sentimental Journey’

This is an unusual sport out of H. 'Piedmont Gold' having foliage with chartreuse centers and a wide margin that slowly changes from chartreuse to gold.  Thick substance in the leaves for good slug resistance.  Will take some time to become quite large.

 

Hosta ‘Silver Bay’

H. 'Silver Bay' features an attractive mound of heavily corrugated, heart-shaped leaves.  The wonderful silvery-blue color is what sets this plant apart, and warrants it a special place in the garden.  Hybridized by Don Dean from Minnesota.

 

Hosta ‘Sleeping Beauty’

New sport of H. 'Halcyon' with pointed, frosty blue-green leaves set off by a lovely cream margin.  Good thick leaves for slug resistance.  Superb grower.

 

Hosta ‘Summer Olympics’

A beautiful large, semi-upright mound of bright gold foliage.  Thick substance for good slug resistance.  The name?  It came from a sport of H. 'Alex Summers' and was introduced during the '04 Summer Olympics.

 

Hosta ‘Sunlight Child’

A beautiful miniature hosta with little shiny yellow leaves creating a tiny clump.  Works well in a rock garden or trough where its interesting form may be fully appreciated.  Hybridized by the late Dr. Herb Benedict.

 

Hosta ‘Sweet Home Chicago’

A dark green-margined sport of H. 'Birchwood Parky's Gold' with gold centers that intensify during the growing season.  Good growth rate.

 

Hosta ‘T. Rex’

A gargantuan hosta!  Gigantic green leaves are 18" long x 14" wide.  Be sure to leave some space for this monster!

 

Hosta ‘Teeny Weeny Bikini’

This surprisingly vigorous mini hosta will brighten up any small area in your garden.  Features long, shiny, tapered leaves, with centers of creamy yellow and dark green borders.

 

Hosta ‘The Leading Edge’

This large, semi-upright hosta features thick, green foliage with rippled, yellow margins.  Near white flowers in mid-summer.

 

Hosta ‘Toy Soldier’

This sport of H. 'Blue Cadet' features a neat clump of blue leaves with a cream margin. Great vigor and slug resistance.

 

Hosta ‘Unforgettable’

A beautiful, upright, vase-shaped hosta with round, corrugated, green leaves surrounded by an attractive, golden border. Leaves become slightly cupped as they mature.

 

Shady Perennials:

Aquilegia ‘Cardinal’

This columbine is a member of the 'Songbird Series' that was hybridized for large flowers and compact size.  Beautiful red and white bicolor blossoms stand upright for a stunning spring show.

 

Aquilegia v. ‘Black Barlow’

This columbine features rich, dark purple flowers and fully double to resemble a small dahlia.  Great companion with gold foliage plants.

 

Aquilegia v. ‘Clementine Red’

A spectacular columbine with fuchsia red, upward-facing blossoms that resemble a small double clementine.  Makes an excellent cut flower.

 

Astilbe ‘Bridal Veil’

A nice hybrid astilbe with handsome white plumes.  Given consistent moisture, this plant will flourish.  Beautiful in an all-white garden.

 

Astilbe ‘Burgundy Red’

A beautiful astilbe with long-lasting, deep red flowers above glossy, deep green foliage.  The best grower for its color.  RHS Award of Garden Merit.

 

Astilbe ‘Key West’

A nice compact astilbe with dark burgundy foliage and carmine-red plumes.  A good edger for a woodland path.

 

Heuchera ‘Hollywood’

One of the showiest heucheras in flower to date, this selection features dense spikes of coral pink flowers.

 

Lathyrus vernus

This beautiful but little known member of the pea family is a nice addition to the shade garden because of it's early spring bloom.  Purple flowers sit atop a mounding clump while other perennials are just starting to break dormancy.  Tough and durable.

 

Pulmonaria ‘Mrs. Kittle’

A fantastic foliage plant, this cultivar features long, arching dark green leaves with silver marbling.  The light rose flowers emerge in spring turning light lavender as they age.  Plant in any well-drained soil in full to part shade..

 

Tiarella ‘Spanish Cross’

A strong growing, clumping foamflower featuring distinctive cut leaves and chocolate centers.  Feathery pink flowers appear in late spring.

 

Viola corsica

An easy-to-grow violet with vivid blue-purple flowers that start in spring and go until fall.  Forms nice tidy mounds.  Not a rampant self-seeder.

 

Viola ‘Sylettas’

A most unusual violet. The leaves and plant look exactly like a florist's potted dwarf cyclamen. Mauve pink flowers in spring. Not at all difficult to grow.  Will self seed to make an excellent shady groundcover.

 

Ferns & Woodland Plants:

Athyrium n. ‘Pewter Lace’

An eye-catching selection of Japanese Painted Fern featuring metallic pewter fronds.  Has deeper rich silver with minimum red pigmentation in the veins.  A true gem for the shade garden.

 

Shady Groundcover:

Convallaria m. ‘Bordeaux’

This beautiful native woodlander features very fragrant, white flowers that are held well above the foliage.  Blooms more prolifically and larger than the species.  Great cut flower.

 

Epimedium g. ‘Purple Prince’

One of the most beautiful epimedium cultivar's in existence today with rich, deep purple flowers in spring.  First flush of spring leaves emerge a muted rose.  Striking and very unique.

 

Epimedium g. ‘Rose Queen’

One of the prettiest of E. grandiflorum cultivars, this features crimson tinged foliage in spring.  Large, deep rose flowers emerge slowly above the foliage.  A tough and durable plant for a woodland garden.

 

Iris c. ‘Eco Bluebird’

I love Iris cristata for its short spiky foliage, welcome flowers in spring, and ability to withstand shade.  This cultivar is bigger and more vigorous than the species.  Cornlower blue flowers with orange crests surrounded by navy blue.

 

Sunny Perennials:

Armeria m. ‘Splendens’

A great garden plant and excellent cut flower.  Plants are tough as nails and the only requirement is a well drained soil.  Beautiful red flower heads in early summer.  Flowers appear in solitary, dense, globe-shaped heads high above the foliage.

 

Euphorbia p. ‘First Blush’

A variegated cushion spurge, with light green foliage and broad cream edges flushed rose-pink from spring into summer.  Creamy yellow flower bracts surround rosy flower buds in early summer.  Not particular about soil except well drained.

 

Geranium ‘Blue Blood’

One of the darkest large-flowering hybrid geraniums.  Has beautiful, very deep purple-blue flowers with even darker veins.

 

Geranium s. ‘Elke’

From Belgium comes this wonderful geranium featuring fluorescent pink flowers with bright white edges and a pure white center.  One of the easiest geraniums to grow, it is a mounding, rapid, low-growing plant.

 

Iris pum. ‘Smart’

A beautiful dwarf iris with red violet flowers with dark purple on the falls.  Blooms much earlier than the large bearded iris.  Only requirement is to give good drainage: plant in dry, hot place, rock walls, rock garden, etc.

 

Nepeta f. ‘Kit Kat’

A unique dwarf form of catmint that creates a luscious mound of gray-green, fragrant foliage that is topped through the summer with spikes of blue-purple flowers.  Good drainage is required for best performance.

 

Phlox p. ‘Blue Paradise’

This wonderful garden phlox has unique flowers that open pale blue, darken to a deep violet blue then get red violet edges as they age. The color changes with the temperature looking more blue or purple depending on the time of day.  Mildew resistant.

 

Phlox p. ‘Orange Perfection’

A striking garden phlox with giant, long panicles of flaming salmon-orange flowers on strong, upright stems.  Good cut flower.

 

Sedum ‘Black Jack’

This stunning cultivar has thick, succulent foliage that is just on the purple side of true black. A sport of S. 'Matrona', it is just as tall and self-supporting.  The rich foliage is an outstanding complement to the brilliant pink flowers in late summer

 

Sedum ‘Lajos’

A stable, variegated sport of S. 'Autumn Joy' with creamy yellow edges. Creamy white buds in July and August turn pink, then bronze red in September.  Plant in full sun and any well drained soil.

 

Sedum ‘Picolette’

A smaller sedum with unique foliage and small clusters of bright pink flowers.  The base foliage color is green, but overlaid with a bronzy red and then again with silver, creating a multi-layered, almost marbled look.  Full sun and well drained soil.

 

Sedum tel. ‘Bon Bon’

This beautiful sedum is an early bloomer.  Features small clusters of pink flowers over rich, dark chocolate foliage.  Plants have a rounded, branching habit.  Plant in full sun in well drained soil.

 

Peonies:

Paeonia ‘Abalone Pearl’

This delicate beauty helps to welcome in the warm spring temperatures. A graceful coral-pink single with a sunny golden center adorns the dark green foliage. Slightly fragrant.

 

Paeonia ‘Early Glow’

An excellent peony for the garden with single, light yellow to ivory flowers and crimson highlights at the center.  A very vigorous, strong growing plant.

 

Paeonia ‘Firelight’

A good plant for the garden, P. 'Firelight' features bright rose-pink flowers with dark pink flares on the petals and red stigmas. Petals are of excellent substance. A very early blooming peony with light fragrance.

 

Paeonia ‘Green Lotus’

A unique cactus/dahlia type peony featuring white blossoms with striking lime-green streaking and soft pink highlights.  Bright yellow center stamens.  Slightly fragrant.

 

Paeonia ‘Martha W.’

This very floriferous peony features single, light pink flowers with a very erect plant habit.  Very vigorous grower; excellent in the landscape.  Fertile; reported by Roger Anderson to be one of the most effective seed parents of his Itoh hybrids.

 

Paeonia ‘Nick Shaylor’

This outstanding American Peony Society Gold Medal winner features beautiful light or blush pink blooms with layer upon layer of petals maturing to ivory. Red markings show on some of the center petals. Late blooming.

 

Paeonia ‘Pastel Sunrise’

This Japanese peony hybrid features fragrant flowers of light pink with a full, soft yellow center.  Excellent, healthy dark green foliage.

 

Paeonia ‘Petite Elegance’

This small, delicate peony features blossoms of luscious magenta-pink fading to an ivory-cream inner and raspberry streaking throughout.

 

Paeonia ‘Requiem’

A classic waxy-white peony with an interesting center of gold and red highlights. Definitely fragrant and no need to stake this plant. Sometimes mentioned as one of the best hybrid peonies introduced by Prof. A.P. Saunders.

 

Paeonia itoh ‘Prairie Charm’

This rare intersectional hybrid features semi-double, clear yellow flowers with purple basal flares and a creamy white and green center. Vigorous grower that eventually produces a multitude of flowers on a substantial plant.

 

Paeonia suff. ‘Houki’

Large, bright red semi-double blooms with small yellow centers grace this wonderful tree peony.  Easy to grow and long lived.  Plant graft union 2" below ground surface and mulch the first year.

 

Paeonia suff. ‘Yagumo’

This spectacular tree peony is a rare beauty with immense 7", purplish-red semi-double flowers with yellow stamens. A long-lived treasure.  Plant graft 2" below soil surface and mulch the first year.

 

Daylilies:

Hemerocallis ‘Apricot Sparkles’

A compact daylily with beautiful sparkling, deep apricot flowers and ruffled petals.  A heavy bloomer that starts very early and then reblooms until frost.

 

Hemerocallis ‘Imperial Lemon’

This great looking daylily has huge, 7" blooms appearing over a long period on large, sturdy plants.  Lemon yellow flowers with a small green throat.  Graceful, slightly ruffled petals and recurved sepals.  A good strong grower.

 

Hemerocallis ‘Little Winecup’

Hem. 'Little Winecup' displays miniature cherry red flowers with yellow throats, a stunning cultivar deserving of a prominent place in your perennial border or along a walkway. Blooms from early to midsummer.

 

Hemerocallis ‘Patricia’

A large flowered and fragrant daylily with multi-layered, double flowers of brightest yellow.  Nicely rounded petals with multiple double petals give this flower a unique look.

 

Hemerocallis ‘Sir Mordred’

One of the best dark-colored daylilies available, this selection has black-red flowers with a yellow throat.  Quite sun fast for such a dark color.  Flowers are fragrant and of heavy substance.  Well-branched and budded.

 

Grasses & Prairie Plants:

Grasses:

Andropogon ger. ‘Pawnee’

Big bluestem is grown for its lush summer foliage and reliable fall and winter color. This is an adaptable, carefree grass that is well suited for naturalizing in a meadow or prairie garden. In a large landscape, plant big bluestem in sweeping drifts.

 

Deschampsia ‘Northern Lights’

A showy, easy to use grass. New green leaves have gold variegation that changes over time to creamy-white with pink tips. Graceful clouds of hazy flower heads on tall, erect stems appear throughout the summer months. Forms a dense clump.

 

Deschampsia flex. ‘Aura’

A choice plant, D. f. 'Aura' forms small clumps of fine, chartreuse blades topped with feathery flowers in early summer.  Of easy culture on a variety of soils in part sun or shade.  One of the few grasses that grows well in dry woodland settings.

 

Molinia caer. ‘Skyracer’

Tall moor grass is noted for its strong architectural form and tall, graceful flower stalks that sway in the slightest breeze.  The brownish flowers emerge in mid-summer on erect vertical spikes 3 to 4 feet above the foliage.  Beautiful.

 

Panicum v. ‘Northwind’

A beautiful selection from Roy Diblik near Milwaukee, featuring dark green, rigidly upright foliage.  Unique flower panicles are held in the middle of the clump rather than arching away from it.  Golden yellow foliage in fall.  Fast grower.

 

Prairie Plants:

Achillea m. ‘Pretty Belinda’

A beautiful yarrow with hot pink flowers fading to light pink.  Nice and compact to stand upright all season.  A durable plant for poor soil.

 

Echinacea ‘Matthew Saul’

This unique cultivar sports earthy gold flowers with a golden orange cone.  Wide petals overlap, giving the flowers a fuller look.  Excellent branching.  Vigorous grower.

 

Echinacea ‘Twilight’

A stunning hybrid coneflower with fragrant, rose-red flowers with a deep red cone.  The wide flower petals overlap giving the flowers a fuller look.  Excellent branching for a multitude of flowers combined with a good, vigorous growth habit.

 

Eupatorium ‘Phantom’

This hybrid Joe Pye weed is very compact with rich, wine-red flowers.  At only 32" high, it is highly adaptable to any size garden where there is good sun and adequate moisture.

 

Sunny Groundcover:

Dianthus del. ‘Zing Rose’

An excellent grass-like perennial for average to dry, well-drained soil.  Flowers totally cover the plant and can last up to 6 weeks.  Shear after flowering to promote vigorous growth and additional flowers.

 

Phlox sub. ‘Red Wing’

P. 'Red Wing' has bright little rose-red flowers with magenta eyes covering its low-growing, needle-like foliage in spring.  Beautiful ground cover for slopes, among rocks, or front of the border.

 

Vines & Climbers:

Clematis ‘Ernest Markham’

A classic clematis with large, showy red-violet flowers in summer.  An attractive complement for fences, trellises, roses, large shrubs or conifers. 

 

Clematis her. ‘China Purple’

This tube clematis has attractive clusters of stunning deep purple flowers in late summer.   Dark green, three-part leaves grow upright on a 30" shrub.   A fantastic border plant.

 

Clematis lan. ‘Candida’

This beautiful clematis was introduced from France in 1862 and is still considered one of the best white cultivars.  Very large, 6" flowers cover the plant in summer.  Lovely winding through evergreens.  Blooms on old and new growth.

 

Clematis ‘Mrs. N. Thompson’

A beautiful, compact cultivar with large, deep violet-blue flowers with a scarlet bar and red anthers.  Ideal for a small garden intertwined among shrubs or roses, or in a container on the patio.

 

Clematis ‘Rhapsody’

A charming cultivar of compact growth with stunning sapphire blue petals which deepen in color with age.

 

Clematis ‘Silver Moon’

A most unusual, silver-mauve flowering clematis.  Large 7" flowers begin in early summer.  Best in part to full shade which helps develop its unique mother-of-pearl coloration to perfection.

 

Clematis ten. ‘Pixie Parasols’

This prized rock garden clematis has raised, 6" stems covered with bluish-purple umbrellas in late spring.  The longer stems trail or lean over neighboring vegetation or rocks to form an attractive groundcover.

 

Roses:

Rosa ‘Northern Encore’ – tree form

This unique hardy rose has been trained into a tree form and features single, soft pink blossoms with light green foliage. 

 

Trees & Shrubs:

Cotinus cog. ‘Young Lady’

Floriferous and then some, this beautiful smokebush has frothy pink blossoms that give the appearance of smoke.  Excellent orange-red fall foliage color.

 

Hydrangea pan. ‘Pink Diamond’ – tree form

A beautiful focal point in any yard or garden, H. 'Pink Diamond' has incredibly large, cream-colored flowers that gradually turn to a rich pink.  This unique hydrangea has been trained to a single stem with a head.

 

Hypericum ‘Blue Velvet’

This attractive shrub has beautiful blue foliage and golden yellow flowers in mid-summer.  Tolerates most soil conditions, but must be well drained.  An open pollinated seedling of H. kalmianum.

 

Physocarpus ‘Center Glow’

A beautiful ninebark with foliage emerging a glowing yellow-green that quickly changes to a bright burgundy.  This gives the plant a dramatic appearance as the colors contrast against each other.  Blooms in spring with creamy-white colors.

 

Viburnum dent. ‘Red Feather’

V. 'Red Feather' gets its name from the two-tone new growth, maroon and green, that resembles the feathers at the base of an arrow.  White flowers in summer followed by blue-black berries in fall.  Red-purple fall foliage.

 

Conifers:

Juniperis hor. ‘Pancake’

One of the flattest creeping junipers available today, this conifer looks fantastic in a hot, dry, rocky environment where it can slowly creep over and around larger rocks.  Perfect cascading over a natural rock ledge.

 

Juniperis scop. ‘Sparkling Skyrocket’

An extremely narrow columnar juniper with gold streaking splashed throughout the blue green foliage.  A very tough conifer with a beautiful look.

 

Larix lar. ‘Newport Beauty’

This delicate witches broom features bright blue-green foliage that turns yellow in fall.  A unique addition to a full sun garden.  Needs a somewhat moist soil.

 

Picea ab. ‘Acrocona’

'Acrocona' means "with terminal cones at the ends of branches."  This unique cultivar features purple-red, immature cones in spring.  Because of the unusual coning habit, growth rate is slowed to a small conifer.

 

Picea ab. ‘Cuppresina’

An extremely narrow, fast growing Norway spruce that gets quite tall.  Very densely filled branching.  Perfect where a strong vertical accent is desired.

 

Picea om. ‘Pendula’

A very beautiful, slender tree with weeping, slightly twisted branches.  Needs staking when young to develop a good leader.

 

Pinus mugo 'Aurea'

A semi-dwarf form of the mugo pine with light-green twisted needles that turn bright gold in winter.

 

Pinus strobus 'Hillside Winter Gold'

An erect form of white pine with rich gold needles, especially in winter.  Needs some shearing as a young plant.  An outstanding specimen tree.

 

Pinus virg. 'Wate's Golden'

This large growing Virginia pine is unassuming in the summer months, then changing to yellow-gold in late fall and intense gold in the winter.  Immature red female cones in spring makes a striking contrast.

 

Thuja occ. 'Yellow Ribbon'

This striking arborvitae has an extremely narrow habit (3') and attractive yellow-gold foliage.  A moderate grower with an upright, pyramidal habit---at maturity, will be 10' high.  Color holds well throughout the year.

 

Tsuga can. 'Gentsch White'

This striking Canadian hemlock is a dwarf mound with silver white tips.  Heavy annual shearing advised for compactness and color.
